Justus Austin 5 II Wood Stove with 5 kW for Continuous Operation

The Justus Austin 5 II wood stove is one of the few stoves in its class that is approved for 24-hour continuous operation - ideal for anyone who wants continuous heat without constant refueling. With a nominal heat output of 5 kW, it heats rooms up to 88 m³ and achieves an efficiency of 80%.

The stove is made of high-quality steel, and the firebox is made of vermiculite. In our shop, you can get the stove in addition to the steel version also in natural stone versions with soapstone or cream limestone. The soapstone cladding not only looks good, it also stores the generated heat and can release it into the room long after the fire has gone out.

Thanks to the integrated glass cleaning system, you have a clear view of the flame. AAir-cooled door handle ensures a pleasant temperature and prevents you from burning your fingers when opening the oven door.

Features & Advantages

  • Continuous operation possible
As a special feature for quality and environmental friendliness, Justus has designed the wood stove to be operable for over 24 hours. Since wood does not sustain embers as long as coal, fuel must be added regularly.
  • Justus Triple Air System
This special system always provides optimally dosed combustion air and improves combustion efficiency.
  • Connection for external air supply
Instead of using valuable room air, air from outside can optionally be used for combustion. For this, the wood stove must be equipped with aConnection piece for external combustion air can be retrofitted. This is especially necessary in small or well-sealed rooms where only a little oxygen is available.
  • Integrated glass cleaning system
The glass cleaning system keeps the viewing glass clean and ensures a clear view of the flame pattern - less cleaning effort, more enjoyment.
  • Air-cooled door handle
The specially designed handle is cooled by air circulation and remains pleasantly tempered even during extended operation - safe opening without risk of burns.
  • Cladding options
Available in the finishes Black Steel, Soapstone with black steel body, or Cream Limestone with black steel body - suitable for various interior styles.
  • Integrated Wood Storage Compartment
The concealed wood storage compartment beneath the combustion chamber provides practical storage for firewood and ensures a tidy appearance.

Application & Usage

The Justus Austin 5 II wood stove, with its compact dimensions of 108 × 53 × 42 cm, is suitable for various room sizes and installation situations. Weighing 124 kg, it requires a stable surface and should be set up by two people.

The flue pipe connection with a diameter of 150 mm can be made either at the back or on top - the connection height at the back is 940 mm, on top 1023 mm up to the center of the pipe stub. This flexibility makes integration into existing chimney systems easier.

Approved fuels include wood, wood briquettes, and lignite. The maximum log length is 25 cm. The combustion chamber with dimensions 38 × 31 × 24 cm offers sufficient space for a good fuel load.

A draft pressure of 10 Pa is required for operation. The stove is classified as type 1 and is suitable for multiple use of the chimney. The safety distances are 80 cm to the front and 20 cm to the sides and back.

If you still need the appropriate accessories for your Justus stove, for example.Stove pipes for connection to the chimney? No problem, you will of course also find them in our shop.

This model is also available from us with a rated output of 7 kW: Justus Austin 7 Wood Stove

Approvals & Standards

The Justus Austin 5 II meets all important safety and environmental standards for the German and European markets. These certifications guarantee safe operation and approval by the chimney sweep.

  • Ecodesign Stage 2
Meets the strict limits of Stage 2 of the Federal Immission Control Ordinance for low emissions and high efficiency - important for approval by the chimney sweep.
  • DIN EN 13240
Tested according to the European standard for room-air-dependent solid fuel appliances - confirms the safety and functionality of the stove.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about the Justus Austin 5 II Wood Stove

For which room size is the Justus Austin 5 II wood stove suitable?

With a nominal heat output of 5 kW, the stove heats rooms up to 88 m³ in volume, which corresponds to about 35 m² of living space with a ceiling height of 2.5 m. In well-insulated houses, it can also warm larger open living areas. The high efficiency of 80% ensures efficient heat output with low fuel consumption.

What does continuous operation mean for the Justus Austin 5 II and how does it work?

The stove is approved for 24-hour continuous operation, which means it can be operated continuously over an entire day. Since wood does not keep embers as long as coal, you need to add fuel every 2-3 hours. The Justus triple air system optimally regulates the combustion air for even heat distribution. More about this in our magazine:Continuous-burning stove vs. intermittent-burning stove: What is the difference?

Can I set up the fireplace stove myself or do I need a professional company?

Assembly is basically possible, but requires craftsmanship and adherence to safety regulations. With a weight of 124 kg, it should be transported by two people. Important are the safety distances of 80 cm in front and 20 cm to the sides and back wall. Connection to the chimney and inspection by the chimney sweep are mandatory. More about this in our magazine: Set up the fireplace stove yourself: Instructions, tips & chimney sweep inspection

Which fuels can I use in the Austin 5 II?

Permitted fuels are wood, wood briquettes, and lignite. It is recommended to use dry split wood with a maximum residual moisture of 20%, for example beech, oak, or ash. The maximum log length is 25 cm. You should avoid wet or treated wood, as it reduces efficiency and leads to increased soot formation.

What are the advantages of the soapstone cladding compared to the steel version?

Soapstone stores heat significantly longer than steel and continues to release it evenly for hours even after the fire has gone out. This provides more pleasant radiant heat and extends the heating effect. Visually, soapstone appears more high-quality and natural than the pure steel version, but it is also heavier and more expensive to purchase.

Do I need external combustion air for the Austin 5 II?

In well-sealed or small rooms, external combustion air is recommended to ensure sufficient oxygen for combustion. The stove already has a standard connection prepared for this. You also need an additional connection nozzle with a diameter of 100 mm. This prevents negative pressure in the room and improves combustion quality.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Installation, Smoke Control rules, delivery, and the price on this page—plain answers before the reviews.

Do you install this stove?

We do not install stoves or flue systems ourselves. Perth Stove Centre Ltd supplies the appliance and arranges carriage to your address. A qualified installer registered with HETAS (or an equivalent competent-person scheme) must fit the stove, connect the flue, and certify the work against Building Regulations Part J where that applies in your area.

We can confirm external dimensions, shipping weight, and the nominal heat output from the manufacturer datasheet so your fitter can check room size and liner diameter before you commit. Smoke Control Area authorisation, planning constraints, and grants that need an installer's invoice sit outside this online sale. Most buyers order the stove here and book the fitter once a delivery week is known.

How does stove delivery work at home?

Orders on this site leave our UK warehouse for the delivery address you enter at checkout. Deliveries outside the United Kingdom need an email agreement before payment, because carrier rules differ. Palletised stoves and inserts are handed over at kerbside or the nearest firm ground the HGV can reach. The driver does not carry units upstairs, through narrow hallways, or across soft ground without prior arrangement.

Before you pay, compare the pallet weight and crate size on this page with your doorway, path, and any steps. If access is tight, tell us when you order. When the goods arrive, inspect the packaging while the driver is still there. If the crate is crushed, torn, or clearly mishandled, write dated reservations on the delivery note (not a vague "subject to unpacking" line), take photographs, and email [email protected] within 48 hours with your order number so we can open a carrier claim.

Who sells and ships this product?

The seller is Perth Stove Centre Ltd, a company registered in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. We trade as a specialist hearth and solid-fuel retailer: we hold stock, prepare orders, and ship the reference shown on this page. We are not a marketplace listing other people's inventory. Registered office, company number, and contractual terms are in our legal notice.

You buy on thestovecentre.com, pay by card before dispatch, and we deliver to the mainland UK address on your order confirmation. No walk-in counter, no depot collection, and no cash or card payment to the driver. Sizing, lead times, or access questions before checkout: [email protected].

Is the product new?

What you see here is normally current manufacturer stock, supplied new and in the maker's factory packaging when the factory still provides one. Ex-display, end-of-line, or refurbished lines are uncommon on this catalogue; when they do appear, the product page states that in plain words in the description.

Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply if the goods arrive faulty or not as described. Keep the email confirmation and invoice. Where the manufacturer publishes a warranty for this reference, that warranty sits alongside for eligible parts under the maker's own registration rules and time limits.

How do you explain the displayed price?

The catalogue mixes stoves, inserts, flue parts, and accessories from manufacturer end-of-line batches and scheduled stock rotations. The goods stay new; when the factory ships retail packaging, that is what arrives on the pallet.

Carriage for qualifying appliances is £35.99 including VAT, or free when the appliance subtotal in your basket reaches £350. Kiln-dried firewood, pellets, and other fuel lines never count toward that threshold. Checkout shows the exact shipping line before you pay. No shop pickup, and nothing is settled with the carrier at the door.

Can I burn wood if I live in a Smoke Control Area?

That depends on your local authority and on whether this exact model is listed as a Defra exempt appliance for wood. Smoke Control Areas are set by the council, not by us; check with them (or their map) before you buy if you are unsure.

Exempt appliances still need dry Ready to Burn wood and correct use. An open fire is not a Defra-exempt route for wood. If the product title or datasheet does not state Smoke Control / Defra exemption, ask us with the model reference before you pay rather than guessing from a similar stove.

Will an Ecodesign stove be hard to light or smoke into the room?

Modern Ecodesign stoves run cleaner air paths than older free-burning models. Forum complaints about smoke into the room usually track back to wet wood, a cold or undersized flue, or lighting with the air controls shut too early, not to the label alone.

Use kiln-dried Ready to Burn logs, get a HETAS fitter to size the liner and terminal, and follow the maker's lighting sequence. If your chimney has always been weak, tell the installer before the stove is ordered; a new firebox will not fix a flue that will not draw.

How do I choose the right kW for my room?

Nominal output on the page is a test figure, not a promise for every house. Insulation, ceiling height, open-plan layout, and whether the stove is the only heat source all matter more than picking the biggest number on the filter.

A HETAS installer (or a heat-loss calculation) is the safe route. Oversizing leads to slumbering and dirty glass; undersizing means the stove runs flat-out and still leaves cold corners. We can confirm the datasheet output and external size so your fitter can check the room before you commit.
