Justus Austin 5 II Wood Stove with 5 kW for Continuous Operation
The Justus Austin 5 II wood stove is one of the few stoves in its class approved for 24-hour continuous operation - ideal for anyone who wants consistent warmth without constant refueling. With a nominal heat output of 5 kW, it heats rooms up to 88 m³ and achieves an efficiency of 80%. The high-quality black steel casing combined with the robust vermiculite combustion chamber ensures durable quality and optimal heat distribution.
In addition to the steel version, you can also find the stove in our shop with natural stone coverings made of soapstone or cream limestone. The soapstone covering stores the generated heat particularly effectively and continues to release it into the room long after the fire has gone out.
Features & Advantages
- 24-Hour Continuous Operation
As a special quality feature, the Austin 5 II is designed for continuous operation over 24 hours - for consistent warmth without interruption. Since wood does not retain embers as long as coal, fuel must be added regularly. - Justus Triple Air System
This special system always ensures optimally dosed combustion air and guarantees clean, efficient burning with minimal emissions. - Integrated Glass Cleaning
With the integrated glass cleaning, you have a clear view of the flame - the viewing window stays clean longer and the flame play remains visibly undisturbed. - Air-Through Door Handle
The air-ventilated door handle ensures a comfortable temperature and prevents you from burning your fingers when opening the oven door - more comfort and safety in operation. - Vermiculite combustion chamber
The combustion chamber made of high-quality vermiculite stores heat optimally and ensures even temperature distribution with high durability. - Multiple cladding options
Available in black steel as well as with natural stone claddings in soapstone or cream limestone - for individual design options matching your living style.
Application & Area of Use
The Justus Austin 5 II wood stove, with its compact dimensions of 105.3 × 52.8 × 42 cm, is ideally suited for living rooms, open-plan living areas, and smaller houses. With a weight of 90 kg, it stands stable and secure, but should be set up by two people. The flue pipe connection with a diameter of 150 mm can be made either to the rear (940 mm connection height) or upwards (1023 mm) - providing flexible installation options depending on structural conditions.
Instead of using valuable indoor air, air from outside can optionally be used for combustion. For this, the wood stove must be equipped with a connection nozzle for external combustion air can be retrofitted. This is especially necessary in small or well-sealed rooms, where only a little oxygen is available. The external combustion air connection is made with a diameter of 100 mm to the rear or downward.
Approved fuels include wood, wood briquettes, and lignite. The maximum log length is 25 cm. For optimal combustion, a supply pressure of 10 Pa is required. The stove is approved as Type 1 for multiple occupancies on the chimney.
Do you still need the appropriate accessories for your Justus stove, e.g., stove pipes for connection to the chimney? No problem, you will of course also find what you are looking for in our shop. You can also get this model from us with a nominal output of 7 kW: Justus Austin 7 Wood Stove.
Approvals & Standards
- Ecodesign Stage 2 - Meets the requirements of the 2nd stage of the Federal Immission Control Ordinance for low emission values
- DIN EN 13240 - European standard for room-air dependent appliances for solid fuels
- 15a B-VG Austria - Approval for the Austrian market according to the local building regulations
- Munich and Regensburg Standard - Meets the strict local requirements of these Bavarian cities
FAQ: Common questions about the Justus Austin 5 II wood stove
For what room size is the Justus Austin 5 II wood stove suitable? With a nominal heat output of 5 kW, the stove heats rooms up to 88 m³, which corresponds to approximately 35 m² of living space with a standard ceiling height. It is ideal for living rooms, open living areas, or smaller houses with good insulation. In poorly insulated old buildings, you should plan for a slightly smaller heating area.
What does 24-hour continuous operation mean on the Austin 5 II?The stove is approved for continuous operation for over 24 hours - a special quality feature that not all wood stoves offer. This means you can keep it burning continuously without having to observe operating pauses. However, since wood does not hold embers as long as coal, you will need to regularly add fuel to maintain the heat output.
Can I set up the Justus Austin 5 II myself?Basically, people with DIY skills can set up the 90 kg stove with two people. The minimum distances are important: 80 cm in front and 20 cm to the sides and back from combustible materials. However, connection to the chimney and inspection by the chimney sweep are mandatory. More about this in our magazine:Setting up a wood stove yourself: Instructions, tips & chimney sweep approval
Which wood is suitable for the Austin 5 II?Oven-dry logs with a maximum of 20% residual moisture are recommended, e.g., beech, oak, or ash. Wet or treated wood reduces efficiency and increases soot deposits. The maximum log length is 25 cm. Alternatively, you can also use wood briquettes or brown coal. More on this in our magazine: Storing firewood correctly: Tips for optimal drying and storage
Do I need external combustion air for the Austin 5 II?In well-sealed or small rooms, external combustion air is recommended to ensure sufficient oxygen for combustion. The stove has a standard connection for this, but requires a separate connection nozzle. The external air supply is provided with a 100 mm diameter at the back or bottom and prevents valuable room air from being used for combustion.
How does the glass air wash work on the Austin 5 II?The integrated glass air wash directs preheated air along the inside of the viewing glass. This airflow prevents soot and combustion residues from depositing on the glass. This keeps the view of the flames clear for longer and significantly extends the cleaning intervals. The glass air wash operates automatically and does not require separate operation.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Installation, Smoke Control rules, delivery, and the price on this page—plain answers before the reviews.
Do you install this stove?
We do not install stoves or flue systems ourselves. Perth Stove Centre Ltd supplies the appliance and arranges carriage to your address. A qualified installer registered with HETAS (or an equivalent competent-person scheme) must fit the stove, connect the flue, and certify the work against Building Regulations Part J where that applies in your area.
We can confirm external dimensions, shipping weight, and the nominal heat output from the manufacturer datasheet so your fitter can check room size and liner diameter before you commit. Smoke Control Area authorisation, planning constraints, and grants that need an installer's invoice sit outside this online sale. Most buyers order the stove here and book the fitter once a delivery week is known.
How does stove delivery work at home?
Orders on this site leave our UK warehouse for the delivery address you enter at checkout. Deliveries outside the United Kingdom need an email agreement before payment, because carrier rules differ. Palletised stoves and inserts are handed over at kerbside or the nearest firm ground the HGV can reach. The driver does not carry units upstairs, through narrow hallways, or across soft ground without prior arrangement.
Before you pay, compare the pallet weight and crate size on this page with your doorway, path, and any steps. If access is tight, tell us when you order. When the goods arrive, inspect the packaging while the driver is still there. If the crate is crushed, torn, or clearly mishandled, write dated reservations on the delivery note (not a vague "subject to unpacking" line), take photographs, and email [email protected] within 48 hours with your order number so we can open a carrier claim.
Who sells and ships this product?
The seller is Perth Stove Centre Ltd, a company registered in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. We trade as a specialist hearth and solid-fuel retailer: we hold stock, prepare orders, and ship the reference shown on this page. We are not a marketplace listing other people's inventory. Registered office, company number, and contractual terms are in our legal notice.
You buy on thestovecentre.com, pay by card before dispatch, and we deliver to the mainland UK address on your order confirmation. No walk-in counter, no depot collection, and no cash or card payment to the driver. Sizing, lead times, or access questions before checkout: [email protected].
Is the product new?
What you see here is normally current manufacturer stock, supplied new and in the maker's factory packaging when the factory still provides one. Ex-display, end-of-line, or refurbished lines are uncommon on this catalogue; when they do appear, the product page states that in plain words in the description.
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply if the goods arrive faulty or not as described. Keep the email confirmation and invoice. Where the manufacturer publishes a warranty for this reference, that warranty sits alongside for eligible parts under the maker's own registration rules and time limits.
How do you explain the displayed price?
The catalogue mixes stoves, inserts, flue parts, and accessories from manufacturer end-of-line batches and scheduled stock rotations. The goods stay new; when the factory ships retail packaging, that is what arrives on the pallet.
Carriage for qualifying appliances is £35.99 including VAT, or free when the appliance subtotal in your basket reaches £350. Kiln-dried firewood, pellets, and other fuel lines never count toward that threshold. Checkout shows the exact shipping line before you pay. No shop pickup, and nothing is settled with the carrier at the door.
Can I burn wood if I live in a Smoke Control Area?
That depends on your local authority and on whether this exact model is listed as a Defra exempt appliance for wood. Smoke Control Areas are set by the council, not by us; check with them (or their map) before you buy if you are unsure.
Exempt appliances still need dry Ready to Burn wood and correct use. An open fire is not a Defra-exempt route for wood. If the product title or datasheet does not state Smoke Control / Defra exemption, ask us with the model reference before you pay rather than guessing from a similar stove.
Will an Ecodesign stove be hard to light or smoke into the room?
Modern Ecodesign stoves run cleaner air paths than older free-burning models. Forum complaints about smoke into the room usually track back to wet wood, a cold or undersized flue, or lighting with the air controls shut too early, not to the label alone.
Use kiln-dried Ready to Burn logs, get a HETAS fitter to size the liner and terminal, and follow the maker's lighting sequence. If your chimney has always been weak, tell the installer before the stove is ordered; a new firebox will not fix a flue that will not draw.
How do I choose the right kW for my room?
Nominal output on the page is a test figure, not a promise for every house. Insulation, ceiling height, open-plan layout, and whether the stove is the only heat source all matter more than picking the biggest number on the filter.
A HETAS installer (or a heat-loss calculation) is the safe route. Oversizing leads to slumbering and dirty glass; undersizing means the stove runs flat-out and still leaves cold corners. We can confirm the datasheet output and external size so your fitter can check the room before you commit.

Matches the listed kW. Secondary air easy to set. Ash pan empties without mess.
Daniel K. –
Wood stove draws cleanly; glass stays clear with dry wood.
Charlotte N. –
Cast iron feels solid. Door seal good. Living room reaches temperature in under an hour.
Claire D. –
Airwash works if I use seasoned logs only. Green wood fogs the glass — my fault.
Emma W. –
First embers after twenty minutes. Followed the instructions, otherwise it smokes on light-up.
Megan K. –
Heavy unit; the carrier left it at the door. We installed it ourselves.
