Justus Island Aqua II Wood-Burning Stove with Integrated Water Heat Exchanger
Cozy comfort combined with functionality - this is the Justus Island Aqua II Wood-Burning Stove. While you are still enjoying the fireplace ambiance, the stove is already working to support the central heating and hot water supply. With a nominal output of 10 kW, around 60% of the generated heat (6 kW) is directed into the water circuit, while the remaining 4 kW serves as a heat source in the room where it is installed.
The Justus Island Aqua II Wood-Burning Stove is made of high-quality steel in cast gray or black. Additionally, there is an option to choose an extra soapstone or sandstone cladding - you can select your favorite through the options menu.
Features & Advantages
- Integrated Warming Compartment
Between the top plate and the firebox there is a small open compartment. You can place, for example, a cup of tea or coffee as well as dishes in it to keep them warm before serving. - Integrated Water Heat Exchanger
The wood stove has an integrated water heat exchanger for connection to the central heating system. This allows the stove to provide pleasant warmth both at its location and throughout the house. In addition to integration into your heating system, it is also possible to connect it to domestic hot water heating. - Thermal Drain Safety and Ignition Flap
For your safety, a thermal drain safety device and an ignition flap for quick lighting are also included in the equipment. - Flexible Chimney Connection
Decide for yourself how you want to integrate the stove into the room design. Depending on your needs, use the flue connection on the top or the back of the stove. - Connection for external air supply
Instead of using the valuable room air, air from outside can optionally be used for combustion. For this, the stove must be retrofitted with a connection nozzle for external combustion air, making room air-independent operation possible. - Combustion chamber insert made of vermiculite
The fire chamber is lined with vermiculite panels. The fireproof material is a good heat store and ensures consistently high temperatures in the combustion chamber, even when the firewood is replenished and the combustion chamber door is opened. - Integrated Glass Cleaning
The integrated glass cleaning prevents dirt deposits on the viewing window thanks to a preheated airflow, saving constant cleaning and at the same time ensuring a clear view of the flame pattern. - 24-Hour Continuous Operation
The stove is approved for unlimited operation and can be continuously operated with the approved fuels wood, wood briquettes, and lignite.
Application & Area of Use
The Justus Island Aqua II Water-Bearing Fireplace Stove is ideal for low-energy and passive houses, as it can be operated independently of room air thanks to its external combustion air supply. With its room heating capacity of up to 200 m³, it efficiently heats larger living spaces.
The installation is freestanding with a weight of 180 kg, which requires a stable base. The setup should be done by two people. The 150 mm flue pipe connection can be connected either at the top or at the back, offering flexible planning options. The height to the flue pipe connection is 1134 mm.
A 100 mm connection is provided for external combustion air, located at a height of 320 mm above the floor. This is particularly important in tightly sealed buildings with controlled ventilation systems to avoid negative pressure in the living area.
The maximum log length is 33 cm. Approved fuels are wood, wood briquettes, and lignite briquettes. The required fan pressure is 12 Pa.
Approvals & Standards
The Justus Island Aqua II meets all important safety and environmental standards for the German and European market:
- DIN EN 13240 - European standard for wood stoves that guarantees safety and performance
- Ecodesign Stage 2 - Meets the strict German emission limits for clean combustion
- EcoDesign Directive 2022 - Complies with EU requirements for environmentally friendly design and energy efficiency
- Approval for Austria according to 15a B-VG - Approved for the Austrian market
FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about the Justus Island Aqua II Water-Bearing Wood Stove
For which room size is the Justus Island Aqua II suitable? With a nominal heat output of 10 kW, the stove is suitable for larger living areas of up to approximately 80 m². Of this, 4 kW is directly released to the installation room, while 6 kW is fed into the heating system via the water heat exchanger. In well-insulated houses, it can also heat larger areas.
Can I install the Justus Island Aqua II myself? In principle, self-installation is possible, but you should keep a few points in mind: The weight of 180 kg requires installation by two people and a stable floor. The connection to the water supply and the heating system should be carried out by a professional company. More on this in our magazine: Install a wood stove yourself: Instructions, tips & chimney sweep approval
Which firewood is suitable for the Justus Island Aqua II?Oven-dry firewood with a residual moisture content of a maximum of 20% is recommended, e.g. beech, oak, or ash. Wet or treated wood reduces efficiency and increases soot deposition. The maximum log length is 33 cm. Alternatively, wood briquettes and lignite briquettes can also be used. More on this in our magazine: Properly storing firewood: Tips for optimal drying and storage
How does the water circulation work in the Island Aqua II?The integrated water heat exchanger directs 6 kW of the generated heat into the water circuit. It can be connected to both the central heating system and the domestic hot water system. The thermal drain protection prevents overheating. The maximum operating pressure is 3 bar. Appropriate supply and return lines are required for the connection.
Why is external combustion air important? In airtight, modern houses with controlled ventilation systems, negative pressure can occur if the stove uses room air for combustion. The external air supply via the 100 mm connection prevents this and ensures optimal combustion conditions. This is particularly important in low-energy and passive houses, for which the stove is specially designed.
What safety distances must I observe? The following minimum distances must be maintained from combustible materials: 800 mm to the front (radiation area), 200 mm to the back, and 200 mm to the sides. These distances ensure safe operation and must be taken into account when planning the room. A fireproof base plate is also required.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Installation, Smoke Control rules, delivery, and the price on this page—plain answers before the reviews.
Do you install this stove?
We do not install stoves or flue systems ourselves. Perth Stove Centre Ltd supplies the appliance and arranges carriage to your address. A qualified installer registered with HETAS (or an equivalent competent-person scheme) must fit the stove, connect the flue, and certify the work against Building Regulations Part J where that applies in your area.
We can confirm external dimensions, shipping weight, and the nominal heat output from the manufacturer datasheet so your fitter can check room size and liner diameter before you commit. Smoke Control Area authorisation, planning constraints, and grants that need an installer's invoice sit outside this online sale. Most buyers order the stove here and book the fitter once a delivery week is known.
How does stove delivery work at home?
Orders on this site leave our UK warehouse for the delivery address you enter at checkout. Deliveries outside the United Kingdom need an email agreement before payment, because carrier rules differ. Palletised stoves and inserts are handed over at kerbside or the nearest firm ground the HGV can reach. The driver does not carry units upstairs, through narrow hallways, or across soft ground without prior arrangement.
Before you pay, compare the pallet weight and crate size on this page with your doorway, path, and any steps. If access is tight, tell us when you order. When the goods arrive, inspect the packaging while the driver is still there. If the crate is crushed, torn, or clearly mishandled, write dated reservations on the delivery note (not a vague "subject to unpacking" line), take photographs, and email [email protected] within 48 hours with your order number so we can open a carrier claim.
Who sells and ships this product?
The seller is Perth Stove Centre Ltd, a company registered in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. We trade as a specialist hearth and solid-fuel retailer: we hold stock, prepare orders, and ship the reference shown on this page. We are not a marketplace listing other people's inventory. Registered office, company number, and contractual terms are in our legal notice.
You buy on thestovecentre.com, pay by card before dispatch, and we deliver to the mainland UK address on your order confirmation. No walk-in counter, no depot collection, and no cash or card payment to the driver. Sizing, lead times, or access questions before checkout: [email protected].
Is the product new?
What you see here is normally current manufacturer stock, supplied new and in the maker's factory packaging when the factory still provides one. Ex-display, end-of-line, or refurbished lines are uncommon on this catalogue; when they do appear, the product page states that in plain words in the description.
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply if the goods arrive faulty or not as described. Keep the email confirmation and invoice. Where the manufacturer publishes a warranty for this reference, that warranty sits alongside for eligible parts under the maker's own registration rules and time limits.
How do you explain the displayed price?
The catalogue mixes stoves, inserts, flue parts, and accessories from manufacturer end-of-line batches and scheduled stock rotations. The goods stay new; when the factory ships retail packaging, that is what arrives on the pallet.
Carriage for qualifying appliances is £35.99 including VAT, or free when the appliance subtotal in your basket reaches £350. Kiln-dried firewood, pellets, and other fuel lines never count toward that threshold. Checkout shows the exact shipping line before you pay. No shop pickup, and nothing is settled with the carrier at the door.
Can I burn wood if I live in a Smoke Control Area?
That depends on your local authority and on whether this exact model is listed as a Defra exempt appliance for wood. Smoke Control Areas are set by the council, not by us; check with them (or their map) before you buy if you are unsure.
Exempt appliances still need dry Ready to Burn wood and correct use. An open fire is not a Defra-exempt route for wood. If the product title or datasheet does not state Smoke Control / Defra exemption, ask us with the model reference before you pay rather than guessing from a similar stove.
Will an Ecodesign stove be hard to light or smoke into the room?
Modern Ecodesign stoves run cleaner air paths than older free-burning models. Forum complaints about smoke into the room usually track back to wet wood, a cold or undersized flue, or lighting with the air controls shut too early, not to the label alone.
Use kiln-dried Ready to Burn logs, get a HETAS fitter to size the liner and terminal, and follow the maker's lighting sequence. If your chimney has always been weak, tell the installer before the stove is ordered; a new firebox will not fix a flue that will not draw.
How do I choose the right kW for my room?
Nominal output on the page is a test figure, not a promise for every house. Insulation, ceiling height, open-plan layout, and whether the stove is the only heat source all matter more than picking the biggest number on the filter.
A HETAS installer (or a heat-loss calculation) is the safe route. Oversizing leads to slumbering and dirty glass; undersizing means the stove runs flat-out and still leaves cold corners. We can confirm the datasheet output and external size so your fitter can check the room before you commit.

Cast iron feels solid. Door seal good. Living room reaches temperature in under an hour.
Ryan C. –
Matches the listed kW. Secondary air easy to set. Ash pan empties without mess.
Thomas B. –
Heavy unit; the carrier left it at the door. We installed it ourselves.
Andrew G. –
Airwash works if I use seasoned logs only. Green wood fogs the glass — my fault.
James T. –
Wood stove draws cleanly; glass stays clear with dry wood.
