Justus Usedom 5 Wood-Burning Stove with Sandstone Cladding and 5.5 kW

The Justus Usedom 5 wood-burning stove combines robust steel technology with the natural heat storage of sandstone - for anyone who values long-lasting warmth and natural appearance. With a nominal output of 5.5 kW, it can heat rooms up to 88 m³ (about 35-40 m² of living space with standard ceiling height) and is, as one of the few stoves in its class, approved for 24-hour continuous operation.

The wood-burning stove is made of high-quality steel, and the combustion chamber is made of vermiculite. The massive cast iron door is very robust and guarantees high tightness and durability. You have the option to customize the stove - in our shop, you can choose between the variants of cast gray steel and black steel with different natural stone claddings. The prism glass gives the Swedish stove an individual touch. The integrated glass cleaning system, a compartment for tidy storage of firewood, and a pleasantly tempered door handle leave nothing to be desired.

Features & Advantages

  • Justus Triple-Air System
This special system always ensures optimally dosed combustion air and improves the efficiency to 80%.
  • Continuous operation over 24 hours
As a special feature for quality and environmental friendliness, Justus designed the beautiful Justus Usedom 5 so that the fireplace can be operated for over 24 hours. Since wood does not maintain embers as long as coal, fuel must be added more regularly.
  • Sandstone Cladding
The natural stone cladding stores heat and continues to release it long after the fire has gone out - for an even room temperature without reheating.
  • Prism Glass Viewing Pane
The special prism glass offers an unobstructed view of the flames and gives the stove an individual appearance.
  • Integrated Glass Cleaning System
Keeps the viewing pane clean and ensures a clear view of the fire - less cleaning effort in daily use.
  • Pleasantly Tempered Door Handle
The air-ventilated handle remains pleasantly cool even during extended use and allows for safe opening of the door.
  • Firewood Compartment
Integrated compartment for neat storage of firewood directly at the stove - practical and visually appealing.

Application & Area of Use

The Justus Usedom 5 wood stove is ideal for living spaces up to 88 m³ and can be operated with wood, wood briquettes, or lignite. The maximum log length is 25 cm. With its weight of 103 kg, it stands firmly but should be installed by two people - a permanent location should be planned in advance.

The flue connection with a diameter of 150 mm can be installed either to the rear or upwards, allowing flexible installation options. Instead of using the valuable room air, air from outside can optionally be used for combustion. For this purpose, the wood stove must be retrofitted with a connection nozzle for external combustion air. This is particularly necessary in small or well-sealed rooms where only little oxygen is available.

The stove is designed as Type 1 for multiple occupancy and requires a draft of 12 Pa at nominal heat output. The minimum distances to combustible materials are 80 cm in front, and 20 cm on the sides and back.

Approvals & Standards

  • DIN EN 13240 - European standard for room-air-dependent fireplaces for solid fuels
  • Ecodesign emission limits Stage II - Meets the requirements of Stage 2 of the Federal Immission Control Ordinance
  • 15a B-VG for Austria - Austrian approval for operation
  • VKF for Switzerland - Swiss approval of the Association of Cantonal Fire Insurances

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about the Justus Usedom 5 Wood Stove

For what room size is the Justus Usedom 5 wood stove suitable?

The stove heats rooms up to 88 m³ with a nominal heat output of 5.5 kW. In well-insulated houses, it can also warm larger open living areas. The sandstone cladding additionally stores heat and releases it evenly.

Can the Justus Usedom 5 really be operated continuously for 24 hours?

Yes, it is approved for continuous operation over 24 hours. Since wood does not maintain embers as long as coal, you need to regularly add fuel. For true continuous burn, the Justus Usedom 5D is recommended, which is specifically designed for longer ember retention.

Which wood is suitable for the Justus Usedom 5 wood stove?

Use oven-dry firewood with a maximum of 20% residual moisture, e.g., beech, oak, or ash. The maximum log length is 25 cm. Wet or treated wood reduces efficiency and increases soot deposition. Alternatively, wood briquettes and lignite are permitted. More on this in our magazine: Storing firewood correctly: Tips for optimal drying and storage

How do I properly start the Justus Usedom 5?

Start with dry kindling and fire starters, then gradually add larger logs. The triple air system automatically regulates the combustion air optimally. Open the air supply fully at the beginning and reduce it after ignition. The glass cleaning system keeps the view clear. More on this in our magazine:How to Properly Start a Wood Stove - Step by Step

Do I need a professional company to install the Usedom 5?

The installation can be done by yourself, but the initial commissioning and connection to the chimney must be inspected by a chimney sweep. With a weight of 103 kg, you should set up the stove with two people. Plan a fixed installation location with the required minimum distances.

What does external combustion air mean for the Justus Usedom 5?

The stove can draw combustion air directly from the outside via an optional connection nozzle, instead of using the warm room air. This is particularly useful in tight, energy-efficient houses or small rooms where there is little oxygen available. The connection is made to the rear with a 100 mm diameter.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Installation, Smoke Control rules, delivery, and the price on this page—plain answers before the reviews.

Do you install this stove?

We do not install stoves or flue systems ourselves. Perth Stove Centre Ltd supplies the appliance and arranges carriage to your address. A qualified installer registered with HETAS (or an equivalent competent-person scheme) must fit the stove, connect the flue, and certify the work against Building Regulations Part J where that applies in your area.

We can confirm external dimensions, shipping weight, and the nominal heat output from the manufacturer datasheet so your fitter can check room size and liner diameter before you commit. Smoke Control Area authorisation, planning constraints, and grants that need an installer's invoice sit outside this online sale. Most buyers order the stove here and book the fitter once a delivery week is known.

How does stove delivery work at home?

Orders on this site leave our UK warehouse for the delivery address you enter at checkout. Deliveries outside the United Kingdom need an email agreement before payment, because carrier rules differ. Palletised stoves and inserts are handed over at kerbside or the nearest firm ground the HGV can reach. The driver does not carry units upstairs, through narrow hallways, or across soft ground without prior arrangement.

Before you pay, compare the pallet weight and crate size on this page with your doorway, path, and any steps. If access is tight, tell us when you order. When the goods arrive, inspect the packaging while the driver is still there. If the crate is crushed, torn, or clearly mishandled, write dated reservations on the delivery note (not a vague "subject to unpacking" line), take photographs, and email [email protected] within 48 hours with your order number so we can open a carrier claim.

Who sells and ships this product?

The seller is Perth Stove Centre Ltd, a company registered in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. We trade as a specialist hearth and solid-fuel retailer: we hold stock, prepare orders, and ship the reference shown on this page. We are not a marketplace listing other people's inventory. Registered office, company number, and contractual terms are in our legal notice.

You buy on thestovecentre.com, pay by card before dispatch, and we deliver to the mainland UK address on your order confirmation. No walk-in counter, no depot collection, and no cash or card payment to the driver. Sizing, lead times, or access questions before checkout: [email protected].

Is the product new?

What you see here is normally current manufacturer stock, supplied new and in the maker's factory packaging when the factory still provides one. Ex-display, end-of-line, or refurbished lines are uncommon on this catalogue; when they do appear, the product page states that in plain words in the description.

Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply if the goods arrive faulty or not as described. Keep the email confirmation and invoice. Where the manufacturer publishes a warranty for this reference, that warranty sits alongside for eligible parts under the maker's own registration rules and time limits.

How do you explain the displayed price?

The catalogue mixes stoves, inserts, flue parts, and accessories from manufacturer end-of-line batches and scheduled stock rotations. The goods stay new; when the factory ships retail packaging, that is what arrives on the pallet.

Carriage for qualifying appliances is £35.99 including VAT, or free when the appliance subtotal in your basket reaches £350. Kiln-dried firewood, pellets, and other fuel lines never count toward that threshold. Checkout shows the exact shipping line before you pay. No shop pickup, and nothing is settled with the carrier at the door.

Can I burn wood if I live in a Smoke Control Area?

That depends on your local authority and on whether this exact model is listed as a Defra exempt appliance for wood. Smoke Control Areas are set by the council, not by us; check with them (or their map) before you buy if you are unsure.

Exempt appliances still need dry Ready to Burn wood and correct use. An open fire is not a Defra-exempt route for wood. If the product title or datasheet does not state Smoke Control / Defra exemption, ask us with the model reference before you pay rather than guessing from a similar stove.

Will an Ecodesign stove be hard to light or smoke into the room?

Modern Ecodesign stoves run cleaner air paths than older free-burning models. Forum complaints about smoke into the room usually track back to wet wood, a cold or undersized flue, or lighting with the air controls shut too early, not to the label alone.

Use kiln-dried Ready to Burn logs, get a HETAS fitter to size the liner and terminal, and follow the maker's lighting sequence. If your chimney has always been weak, tell the installer before the stove is ordered; a new firebox will not fix a flue that will not draw.

How do I choose the right kW for my room?

Nominal output on the page is a test figure, not a promise for every house. Insulation, ceiling height, open-plan layout, and whether the stove is the only heat source all matter more than picking the biggest number on the filter.

A HETAS installer (or a heat-loss calculation) is the safe route. Oversizing leads to slumbering and dirty glass; undersizing means the stove runs flat-out and still leaves cold corners. We can confirm the datasheet output and external size so your fitter can check the room before you commit.

5 reviews for Justus Usedom 5 - Cladding wood stove 5.5 kW

  1. Megan K. –

Airwash works if I use seasoned logs only. Green wood fogs the glass — my fault.

  2. Jack F. –

Heavy unit; the carrier left it at the door. We installed it ourselves.

  3. Laura V. –

Matches the listed kW. Secondary air easy to set. Ash pan empties without mess.
