Application & Area of Use
The La Nordica Gemma Forno 165 wood stove is suitable with 7.3 kW for rooms of approximately 80-85 m² with a ceiling height of 2.50 m, depending on insulation and layout. The baking compartment with a volume of 19 liters and the small cast iron cooking plate allow for versatile cooking activities - from casseroles to bread to keeping food warm. The internal dimensions of the baking compartment are approx. 29.6 x 22.7 x 29.0 cm.
It heats with logs up to 30 cm in length or wood briquettes, with a typical consumption of about 1.9 kg of wood per hour at nominal output. The flue connection is on top with a Ø 120 mm and a required draft of 12 Pa. The safety distances are 300 mm on the sides, 300 mm at the back, and 1000 mm in the front from combustible materials.
Due to the weight of 140 kg, at least two people should always be involved when setting up and moving it. The appropriate accessories for your La Nordica fireplace stove, e.g., stove pipes for connection to the chimney, can of course also be found in our shop.
FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about the La Nordica Gemma Forno 165 Fireplace Stove
For what room size is the La Nordica Gemma Forno 165 wood stove suitable? With 7.3 kW and a room heating capacity of up to 209 m³, it is suitable for approximately 80-85 m² with 2.50 m ceiling height, depending on insulation and floor plan. In well-insulated new buildings, the heated area can be larger, while in older buildings it will be correspondingly smaller.
How does heating and baking at the same time work? The 19-liter baking compartment uses the waste heat from the combustion chamber and reaches baking temperatures through the direct connection. The integrated thermometer shows the current temperature, so you can prepare bread, casseroles, or other dishes while the stove heats at the same time. The cast iron cooking plate on top is additionally suitable for keeping food warm or for small cooking tasks.
Which wood should I use for the La Nordica Gemma Forno 165?Use only dry firewood with a maximum of 20% residual moisture and a length of up to 30 cm. Suitable hardwoods include beech, oak, or birch, as well as softwoods such as spruce or pine. Wood briquettes are also allowed. Treated or wet wood reduces efficiency and increases emissions. More on this in our magazine: Storing firewood properly: Tips for optimal drying and storage
How do I properly light the wood stove?First, fully open the primary and secondary air. Place kindling and dry small wood in a crisscross pattern in the firebox, then larger logs on top. Light from above - this method reduces smoke and ensures clean combustion. After the fire has started, adjust the air supply according to the desired heating output. More about this in our magazine: How to properly light a wood stove - step by step
What should be considered when setting up and connecting it?The stove requires a solid, load-bearing base and the prescribed safety distances: 300 mm to the sides and rear, 1000 mm to the front to combustible materials. The flue pipe connection is at the top with Ø 120 mm. A chimney sweep must approve the installation and check the suitability of the chimney. With a weight of 140 kg, at least two people should help with the installation.
How do I properly maintain the natural stone cladding? The natural stone cladding requires only minimal maintenance. Regularly remove dust with a dry, soft cloth or a soft brush. For stubborn stains, use a slightly damp cloth without aggressive cleaning agents. Avoid scouring powders or acidic cleaners, as they can damage the natural stone. The natural patina of the stone will intensify over time and is desirable.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Installation, Smoke Control rules, delivery, and the price on this page—plain answers before the reviews.
Do you install this stove?
We do not install stoves or flue systems ourselves. Perth Stove Centre Ltd supplies the appliance and arranges carriage to your address. A qualified installer registered with HETAS (or an equivalent competent-person scheme) must fit the stove, connect the flue, and certify the work against Building Regulations Part J where that applies in your area.
We can confirm external dimensions, shipping weight, and the nominal heat output from the manufacturer datasheet so your fitter can check room size and liner diameter before you commit. Smoke Control Area authorisation, planning constraints, and grants that need an installer's invoice sit outside this online sale. Most buyers order the stove here and book the fitter once a delivery week is known.
How does stove delivery work at home?
Orders on this site leave our UK warehouse for the delivery address you enter at checkout. Deliveries outside the United Kingdom need an email agreement before payment, because carrier rules differ. Palletised stoves and inserts are handed over at kerbside or the nearest firm ground the HGV can reach. The driver does not carry units upstairs, through narrow hallways, or across soft ground without prior arrangement.
Before you pay, compare the pallet weight and crate size on this page with your doorway, path, and any steps. If access is tight, tell us when you order. When the goods arrive, inspect the packaging while the driver is still there. If the crate is crushed, torn, or clearly mishandled, write dated reservations on the delivery note (not a vague "subject to unpacking" line), take photographs, and email [email protected] within 48 hours with your order number so we can open a carrier claim.
Who sells and ships this product?
The seller is Perth Stove Centre Ltd, a company registered in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. We trade as a specialist hearth and solid-fuel retailer: we hold stock, prepare orders, and ship the reference shown on this page. We are not a marketplace listing other people's inventory. Registered office, company number, and contractual terms are in our legal notice.
You buy on thestovecentre.com, pay by card before dispatch, and we deliver to the mainland UK address on your order confirmation. No walk-in counter, no depot collection, and no cash or card payment to the driver. Sizing, lead times, or access questions before checkout: [email protected].
Is the product new?
What you see here is normally current manufacturer stock, supplied new and in the maker's factory packaging when the factory still provides one. Ex-display, end-of-line, or refurbished lines are uncommon on this catalogue; when they do appear, the product page states that in plain words in the description.
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply if the goods arrive faulty or not as described. Keep the email confirmation and invoice. Where the manufacturer publishes a warranty for this reference, that warranty sits alongside for eligible parts under the maker's own registration rules and time limits.
How do you explain the displayed price?
The catalogue mixes stoves, inserts, flue parts, and accessories from manufacturer end-of-line batches and scheduled stock rotations. The goods stay new; when the factory ships retail packaging, that is what arrives on the pallet.
Carriage for qualifying appliances is £35.99 including VAT, or free when the appliance subtotal in your basket reaches £350. Kiln-dried firewood, pellets, and other fuel lines never count toward that threshold. Checkout shows the exact shipping line before you pay. No shop pickup, and nothing is settled with the carrier at the door.
Can I burn wood if I live in a Smoke Control Area?
That depends on your local authority and on whether this exact model is listed as a Defra exempt appliance for wood. Smoke Control Areas are set by the council, not by us; check with them (or their map) before you buy if you are unsure.
Exempt appliances still need dry Ready to Burn wood and correct use. An open fire is not a Defra-exempt route for wood. If the product title or datasheet does not state Smoke Control / Defra exemption, ask us with the model reference before you pay rather than guessing from a similar stove.
Will an Ecodesign stove be hard to light or smoke into the room?
Modern Ecodesign stoves run cleaner air paths than older free-burning models. Forum complaints about smoke into the room usually track back to wet wood, a cold or undersized flue, or lighting with the air controls shut too early, not to the label alone.
Use kiln-dried Ready to Burn logs, get a HETAS fitter to size the liner and terminal, and follow the maker's lighting sequence. If your chimney has always been weak, tell the installer before the stove is ordered; a new firebox will not fix a flue that will not draw.
How do I choose the right kW for my room?
Nominal output on the page is a test figure, not a promise for every house. Insulation, ceiling height, open-plan layout, and whether the stove is the only heat source all matter more than picking the biggest number on the filter.
A HETAS installer (or a heat-loss calculation) is the safe route. Oversizing leads to slumbering and dirty glass; undersizing means the stove runs flat-out and still leaves cold corners. We can confirm the datasheet output and external size so your fitter can check the room before you commit.

Emily F. –
Heavy unit; the carrier left it at the door. We installed it ourselves.
Daniel K. –
Wood stove draws cleanly; glass stays clear with dry wood.
Grace L. –
Matches the listed kW. Secondary air easy to set. Ash pan empties without mess.
George A. –
Cast iron feels solid. Door seal good. Living room reaches temperature in under an hour.
Natalie B. –
Airwash works if I use seasoned logs only. Green wood fogs the glass — my fault.
Benjamin Q. –
First embers after twenty minutes. Followed the instructions, otherwise it smokes on light-up.
