FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions about the La Nordica Gemma Lean Wood Stove
What room size is suitable for the La Nordica Gemma Lean Wood Stove? With a nominal heat output of 6.5 kW, it heats up to 186 m³ of room volume, which corresponds to about 74 m² with a ceiling height of 2.50 m. This makes it ideal for living and dining areas in medium-sized apartments or houses with good insulation.
What are the advantages of soapstone cladding for heating?Soapstone stores heat particularly well and releases it evenly over hours. This allows you to enjoy pleasant warmth for longer after the fire has burned out and reduces the frequency of refueling. Visually, the natural stone fits discreetly with both modern and classic interiors.
How is the wood stove connected and what distances are required? The flue connection is at the top with a diameter of 120 mm and requires a draft of 12 Pa. Safety distances: 300 mm at the back, 400 mm at the sides, 1000 mm in front from combustible materials. As type 1 construction, multiple occupancy is possible - have the installation checked by the chimney sweep.
Which wood is best suited for the La Nordica Gemma Lean wood stove?Use oven-dry firewood with a maximum moisture content of 20%, e.g., beech, oak, or ash. The maximum log length is 30 cm. Wet or treated wood reduces efficiency and increases emissions. More on this in our magazine: Storing firewood properly: Tips for optimal drying and storage
How do I properly start the wood stove?Start with dry kindling and fire starters, open the primary air completely, and add larger logs after the fire has caught. Then regulate the airflow for optimal combustion. The separate primary and secondary air control allows precise adjustment. More on this in our magazine:How to properly light a wood stove - step by step
Is the 100 kg wood stove difficult to transport?Due to the weight of 100 kg, at least two people should always be involved when setting up and moving it. For stairs, we additionally recommend suitable transport aids such as a hand truck or professional moving assistance.

Delivery and shipping

Delivery and tracking
Orders leave our Perth warehouse for the UK address on your order. Heavy appliances and fuel go on a pallet and stop at kerbside (or the closest firm ground the lorry can reach).
- Preparation: usually within 24 to 48 working hours after payment.
- Transit: about 7 to 9 working days after the carrier collects, depending on region and stock. Weekends and bank holidays do not count.
- Shipping costs: appliances £35.99 incl. VAT, or free from £350 of appliances. Firewood and pellets use pallet rates and are never free. Delivery policy.
- Tracking: emailed when the carrier takes the goods.
Returns and refunds
- Cooling-off: 14 days under UK distance-selling rules. We also take unused, resaleable returns up to 45 days. Details on the Returns page.
- Refund: started after we receive and check the return.
Frequently asked questions about this product
Installation, Smoke Control rules, delivery, and the price on this page—plain answers before the reviews.
Do you install this stove?
We do not install stoves or flue systems ourselves. Perth Stove Centre Ltd supplies the appliance and arranges carriage to your address. A qualified installer registered with HETAS (or an equivalent competent-person scheme) must fit the stove, connect the flue, and certify the work against Building Regulations Part J where that applies in your area.
We can confirm external dimensions, shipping weight, and the nominal heat output from the manufacturer datasheet so your fitter can check room size and liner diameter before you commit. Smoke Control Area authorisation, planning constraints, and grants that need an installer's invoice sit outside this online sale. Most buyers order the stove here and book the fitter once a delivery week is known.
How does stove delivery work at home?
Orders on this site leave our UK warehouse for the delivery address you enter at checkout. Deliveries outside the United Kingdom need an email agreement before payment, because carrier rules differ. Palletised stoves and inserts are handed over at kerbside or the nearest firm ground the HGV can reach. The driver does not carry units upstairs, through narrow hallways, or across soft ground without prior arrangement.
Before you pay, compare the pallet weight and crate size on this page with your doorway, path, and any steps. If access is tight, tell us when you order. When the goods arrive, inspect the packaging while the driver is still there. If the crate is crushed, torn, or clearly mishandled, write dated reservations on the delivery note (not a vague "subject to unpacking" line), take photographs, and email [email protected] within 48 hours with your order number so we can open a carrier claim.
Who sells and ships this product?
The seller is Perth Stove Centre Ltd, a company registered in Perth, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. We trade as a specialist hearth and solid-fuel retailer: we hold stock, prepare orders, and ship the reference shown on this page. We are not a marketplace listing other people's inventory. Registered office, company number, and contractual terms are in our legal notice.
You buy on thestovecentre.com, pay by card before dispatch, and we deliver to the mainland UK address on your order confirmation. No walk-in counter, no depot collection, and no cash or card payment to the driver. Sizing, lead times, or access questions before checkout: [email protected].
Is the product new?
What you see here is normally current manufacturer stock, supplied new and in the maker's factory packaging when the factory still provides one. Ex-display, end-of-line, or refurbished lines are uncommon on this catalogue; when they do appear, the product page states that in plain words in the description.
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply if the goods arrive faulty or not as described. Keep the email confirmation and invoice. Where the manufacturer publishes a warranty for this reference, that warranty sits alongside for eligible parts under the maker's own registration rules and time limits.
How do you explain the displayed price?
The catalogue mixes stoves, inserts, flue parts, and accessories from manufacturer end-of-line batches and scheduled stock rotations. The goods stay new; when the factory ships retail packaging, that is what arrives on the pallet.
Carriage for qualifying appliances is £35.99 including VAT, or free when the appliance subtotal in your basket reaches £350. Kiln-dried firewood, pellets, and other fuel lines never count toward that threshold. Checkout shows the exact shipping line before you pay. No shop pickup, and nothing is settled with the carrier at the door.
Can I burn wood if I live in a Smoke Control Area?
That depends on your local authority and on whether this exact model is listed as a Defra exempt appliance for wood. Smoke Control Areas are set by the council, not by us; check with them (or their map) before you buy if you are unsure.
Exempt appliances still need dry Ready to Burn wood and correct use. An open fire is not a Defra-exempt route for wood. If the product title or datasheet does not state Smoke Control / Defra exemption, ask us with the model reference before you pay rather than guessing from a similar stove.
Will an Ecodesign stove be hard to light or smoke into the room?
Modern Ecodesign stoves run cleaner air paths than older free-burning models. Forum complaints about smoke into the room usually track back to wet wood, a cold or undersized flue, or lighting with the air controls shut too early, not to the label alone.
Use kiln-dried Ready to Burn logs, get a HETAS fitter to size the liner and terminal, and follow the maker's lighting sequence. If your chimney has always been weak, tell the installer before the stove is ordered; a new firebox will not fix a flue that will not draw.
How do I choose the right kW for my room?
Nominal output on the page is a test figure, not a promise for every house. Insulation, ceiling height, open-plan layout, and whether the stove is the only heat source all matter more than picking the biggest number on the filter.
A HETAS installer (or a heat-loss calculation) is the safe route. Oversizing leads to slumbering and dirty glass; undersizing means the stove runs flat-out and still leaves cold corners. We can confirm the datasheet output and external size so your fitter can check the room before you commit.

Benjamin Q. –
Matches the listed kW. Secondary air easy to set. Ash pan empties without mess.
James T. –
Wood stove draws cleanly; glass stays clear with dry wood.
Harry P. –
Airwash works if I use seasoned logs only. Green wood fogs the glass — my fault.
Harry P. –
First embers after twenty minutes. Followed the instructions, otherwise it smokes on light-up.
